On Saturday, June 21, 2008 we held our annual Father's Day Event.
It is a very special event because it gives many of the Dads an
opportunity to see what goes on each day at Rivercity. The event
was of course a huge success. There were two separate parties -
one in the morning and one in the afternoon - and each party had
15 kids and their Dads in attendance. As the children came into
the classroom, we took a picture with their Dad to use later for
our art project. To start off the party we had our usual opening
circle, which included each child saying his or her name, reviewing
flashcards, and singing the alphabet song. This was a great way
for the Dads to see part of our curriculum. After opening circle,
the kids and Dads moved into the next room where they made their
art project; a picture frame with the picture that had been taken
at the beginning of the party. The kids were able to decorate their
picture frames, and the Dads were a great help too! Once the art
was complete, everyone moved upstairs for the cooking class! This
was one of the favorite parts of the party. James taught everyone
how to make his famous Australian Pancakes, and the Dads had a great
time showing off their pancake flipping skills! The kids and Dads
got to decorate their pancakes with all sorts of toppings, such
as honey, lemon juice, jam and whipped cream. They were delicious!
After all that food, Hiromi gave everyone a Dance lesson. It was
fun to see all the Dads and kids trying to dance! Another favorite
event at the party was the game, "Which Hand is my Daddy's?" The
Dads hid behind a sheet 3 at a time, with only their hands showing.
Their kids had to try and guess which hand belonged to their Dad.
It was a lot of fun! To end off the party we had a closing circle,
where we reviewed our sign language, read some stories and did the
Goodbye Song. The party was a great success and all the kids and
their Dads, as well as the teachers had a wonderful time! |
