Rivercity Playgroup was opened in May 2005 as the
latest addition to Rivercity English School which started
7 years ago at Rivercity in Tsukuda, Chuo Ku. Playgroup
is supported by the strong connections of an American
educational network which specializes in early childcare
programs through Learning network in Japan. Our preschool
program is based on "Creative Curriculum" by Teaching
Strategies which is a developmentally appropriate program
adopted by a number of schools and child care centers
in the USA and other western countries. In our preschool
program, we use music from KIMBO Educational. Kimbo
specializes in music with educational value. Whether
it is movement, rhythm or school subjects, their music
is fun for kids.
By organizing our preschool play room into interest areas, we respect children's natural desire to play and let them make their own decisions. By exploring the different toys in different interest areas, children would try out their ideas, learn about sizes, shapes, and colors, and they notice relationships between things. In this way, we can help them became creative and enthusiastic learners.
The philosophy behind our curriculum is that young children learn best by doing. Learning requires active thinking and experimenting to find out how things work and to learn firsthand about the world we live in.
